Hello, my name is Tessa. I was
operated on for a brain tumor in September, 2003. While I continue to
have lots of medical issues because of the tumor, including growth
problems; one thing that did not stop growing is my hair.
My
neurosurgeon was very careful not to cut my hair off for surgery. Back
then, my hair was about neck length, and I was glad that I didn't have
to lose all of it during the surgery.
For
one whole year, I never wanted anybody to touch my head. My scar still
hurt, and it was weirdly numb, swollen and mushy on my forehead and
temples. My hair grew like a weed and got very thick.
When
I decided that my long, thick hair was too much trouble for me, I told
my mom that I wanted to give it away to another girl who didn't have
any hair, who knew about being real sick.
We
found out about Wigs4Kids from a newsletter that I get in the mail from
one of the
places that helps kids with life-threatening illness. I read all about
Wigs4Kids from their website, and decided I would give away my hair to
Wigs 4 Kids. So my mom called.
It
was very exciting when I arrived at the salon. Everybody made a fuss
over me and took my pictures like I was a model or something. I had so
much fun watching my hair being cut off into a long pony tail. I had 14
inches for someone's wig. Then Maggie, being so awesome, gave me a
really cool haircut that made my family and my friends do a double take
to make sure it was me.
I
am a sophomore at Lánse Creuse High School, and I would ask
everybody with long hair to please, please, please, call up WIGS 4 KIDS
and help another child, who has to live with being sick, to have some
really great hair.
