Sophia 800 Fundraiser for Wigs 4 Kids
 
 
Wigs 4 Kids is honored to have the support of Sophia, her family and friends! Sophia lives out of state and her mother Jennifer researched different organizations to contribute to before deciding upon Wigs 4 Kids. Jennifer and Sophia chose us as they liked that our program was available at no cost. Sophia hosted a fundraiser titled “Sophia 800” as her goal was to raise enough money to sponsor a child’s wig and support services through our Adopt-a-Kid program.
In addition to raising funds for children in need, Sophia also contributed directly to making a wig by donating her hair. The community was so inspired by her giving nature that Sophia wound up surpassing her goal and was able to sponsor two children at Wigs 4 Kids! We are grateful to Sophia and everyone who donated to make this possible.

Hair Donation Scam
Please be advised, Wigs 4 Kids is not affiliated with anyone and does not have subcontractors that cut hair and pay the donor for the service. We were contacted by an out-of-state hair donor regarding a situation of this nature. A gentleman posted a Craigslist ad requesting that women who had long hair to cut should contact him and he would pay them, as he would be utilizing the hair to make wigs on behalf of Wigs 4 Kids. This is not so and our lawyer has addressed this.
Any salons that are listed on our website donate their time, talent and treasure by cutting hair. They do not operate as subcontractors or pay donors for their services. We appreciate your attention to this matter and your continued support of our program. |

Wigs 4 Kids received a heartwarming visit at our Ancillary Office yesterday from wig recipients Adrianna and Little Maggie. Adrianna wanted to give a gift to another young child to share the warmth of the holiday season. After coloring three cards for Little Maggie, Adrianna presented her with a gift card to Claire’s Girls Boutique! The girls enjoyed holiday cookies as a great way to end the evening. How inspiring!

Ford's Heart Behind the Oval Contest
Want to make a difference this week? Jaeleen, one of our kids, is participating in the Ford Heart Behind the Oval Scholarship Contest. Diagnosed at 6 years old with alopecia, Jaeleen faced her health challenge with courage and received a wig through our program. Jaeleen became very active in the community and has been greatly successful in pageants, having felt confident with her wig.
Jaeleen is competing to win a $2,500 scholarship through the Ford contest that will assist her with her academic goals while also winning a $2,500 grant to fund her community organization of choice. We are honored that Jaeleen has chosen Wigs 4 Kids! Over 4,000 Hair Donations Received in 2012!
Wigs 4 Kids has received close to 4,000 hair donations this year to help us continue our mission! We thank all of our hair donors for their support, including Summer, who stopped in to deliver her hair to our Wellness Center yesterday and take a tour of the facility! Summer donated her hair in honor of her grandparents, who are cancer survivors and we are inspired to see another Michigan child helping her peers in the community.

Binson's Home Health Care Hosts Cut-a-Thons for Wigs 4 Kids
 
Wigs 4 Kids partnered with Binson’s Home Health Care for cut-a-thon events held at 7 of Binson’s locations in Southgate, Eastpointe, Centerline, Royal Oak, Sterling Heights, Livonia and Troy. Licensed cosmetologists were on-hand to perform the professional haircut service for a donation of $20. All proceeds benefitted the children in our program and the team at Binson's raised over $1,000 to support our kids! We are thankful to Binson’s for selecting us as a charity of choice for these events. |

Our 2012 annual children’s holiday party was greatly enjoyed by all who attended - we had our biggest turnout yet! Our kids had their pictures taken with Santa, visited with Santa Paws and received presents.
Special thanks to National Coney Island’s Chip Shotz Restaurant for providing a warm & inviting venue and wonderful food! We appreciate the talent of Dancer’s Workshop who performed holiday dances and thank DJ George Munger of Elite Entertainment who entertained our guests throughout the evening. Leave the fall chill at the door and end the summer with the Sands Bash 13th Annual Charity Event tonight November 3rd from 7:00 pm- 1:30 am at the Barrister Gardens in St. Clair Shores. Wally's Frozen Custard Grand Opening
Join Wigs 4 Kids in congratulating Wally's Frozen Custard for the Grand Opening of their new building on October 27th & 28th!
Wally’s is known throughout the community not only for their custard, also their custard pies! We are proud of their growth and opening of the new location on Harper Avenue in St. Clair Shores. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 11 AM on October 27th. Wigs 4 Kids Founder & CEO Maggie Varney attended the awards ceremony and we are grateful for the continuing support we receive from the community.
In building our Wigs 4 Kids Wellness Center, our goal was to provide an environment that was eco-friendly, safe, warm & nurturing as many of our children have compromised immune systems. We planned, implemented and evaluated the needs of our children & their families during the construction phase and we took into consideration the needs of our team and the community as well. We are honored to be recognized for our focus on wellness.

Our 9th Annual Gala “A Hair Affair” was a great success with a sell-out crowd of 800 people for the second consecutive year in a row! We thank the individuals and businesses in the community that attended and continue to support the children and teens in our program. Our guests had a wonderful time dancing, enjoying great food and entertainment from tribute artists Allen Scott as Tim McGraw & Danny D as Rod Stewart. Celebrity guests Steve Wilkos of “The Steve Wilkos Show” and formerly of “The Jerry Springer Show” along with the cast of “Hardcore Pawn” from American Jewelry & Loan added to the night’s excitement!

The Digirolamo Family Raises Funds to Sponsor a Child
in the Wigs 4 Kids Program!
The daughters of the DiGirolamo Family organized a fundraiser to raise $800 to support a child in the Wigs 4 Kids Adopt-A-Kid Program. One of the daughters cut and donated her hair to be used in the wig. The funds raised will cover the entire cost of a custom made wig for one child in our program.

Our new Wigs 4 Kids Ancillary Support Services satellite office offers every child in our program the opportunity to been seen through our intake program. This will help us to assess & evaluate the needs of our children, so we may assist them in healing psychologically,
socially and emotionally.
There are many side effects of hair loss that are not being addressed as little is known in the medical profession about the disorders causing them.

During Annual Golf Outing
The GTJ Foundation held their annual golf outing yesterday and selected Wigs 4 Kids as their charity of choice this year. Heartfelt thanks to the GTJ Foundation and the Johnson Family for raising over $25,000 to support the children we serve at Wigs 4 Kids!
The Foundation has become part of our Founding Members program and we are honored to know such a great family. The GTJ Foundation gives back so much to the community – we are grateful to have their support.

Blue Water Bash a Great Success!
 
The Blue Water Bash fundraiser was a great success! Our guests enjoyed dinner, dancing to music by BigFootDJs, and entertainment provided by Tim McGraw tribute artist Allen Scott as they raised funds to help us continue our mission. Together, we raised over $4,000 to provide wigs and support services to children in our program. Special thanks to our Finance Officer Dan, Sheila & Megan Davenport for organizing this event and to Mark & Barb Pedersen from St. Clair Collision for being corporate sponsors for Wigs 4 Kids.

Casino Nights Fundraiser a Great Success for Wigs 4 Kids!
Wigs 4 Kids greatly appreciates the efforts of the Nautical Mile Merchants Association for their hard work in successfully hosting the Aquafest Casino Nights fundraiser for our program! Together, we raised over $5,000 to help us continue our mission.
Stunning raffle prizes, including a diamond bracelet from Maloofs were raffled off to lucky winners who came out to support us! The winner of this beautiful prize generously donated it back to Wigs 4 Kids for use at our gala, so we may raise additional funds to support the children we serve.
Special thanks to the staff of the Kolping Center and our Wigs 4 Kids volunteers for making the evening enjoyable for our guests.

4th Annual GTJ Foundation Golf Outing Benefits Wigs 4 Kids!
It is time to enjoy the summer sun and relax during GTJ Foundation’s 4th Annual Golf Outing, Monday, August 6, 2012 at the Gowanie Golf Club on River Road in Mt. Clemens, Mich. 100% of this year’s event proceeds will benefit Wigs 4 Kids!
Activities include 4-person scramble format, 50/50 drawing, door prizes, closest to the pin, long drive contest, putting contest and skins game.

Selfridge Firefighters Support Wigs 4 Kids!
 
Wigs 4 Kids thanks the Selfridge Firefighters for inviting our kids to their firehouse for a day! Our kids enjoyed a luncheon prepared by the firefighters and had a blast learning how to use fire extinguishers to put out small fires with the team!
The Selfridge Firefighters are long-time supporters of Wigs 4 Kids and are also hosting their annual golf outing fundraiser on July 20th to benefit the children in our program. Splash & Sparkle Car Wash Fundraiser for Wigs 4 Kids!
Join us Saturday, June 30th from 11 AM - 3 PM for the "Splash & Sparkle" car wash fundraiser, benefitting Wigs 4 Kids!
This event was organized by one of our wonderful volunteers named Jake.
Jake’s cousin Mandy received a wig & support services through our program before she became an angel. He was very young when she passed away, and it left a profound impact on his life. Jake decided he wanted to give back to the organization that was able to assist his cousin during her health challenge, and has volunteered once a month for three years to assist us.
The "Splash & Sparkle" car wash fundraiser is another way Jake and his family continue to support us. We hope to see you at this event!

Cuts 4 a Cause Cosmetology Training Program - Session III
 
In the third session of our “Cuts 4 a Cause” Cosmetology Training Program, our designers met Emily, the first child we ever served and discussed her journey courageously facing cancer, meeting our Founder & CEO Maggie Varney, and being the inspiration to start our Wigs 4 Kids program. Our licensed professionals also had the opportunity to work on wigs, developing their cutting and styling techniques for the day when they will assist the children in our program. Every designer did an amazing job! Our thanks for their participation.

Wigs 4 Kids Ambassadors Tour the Webber Wildlife Museum!
Our Ambassadors and their families embarked on a tour of the
Webber Wildlife Museum to learn more about animals from around the world, their living and habitats. The Webber Wildlife Museum is a private facility – there are only 4 others in America of its caliber and we are very fortunate to have been invited to tour it. Our kids had a great time with their peers and we thank the Webbers for sharing this experience with
Wigs 4 Kids. This field trip is part of our Summer Support Services which run through
August at no cost for our kids.

Cuts 4 a Cause Cosmetology Training Program - Session 2
The second session in our “Cuts 4 a Cause” Cosmetology Training Program was held yesterday at our Wellness Center. Our licensed professionals returned to learn about the many disorders causing hair loss.

"Locks 4 Rock" Fundraiser for Wigs 4 Kids
 
“Locks 4 Rock,” a fundraiser held by local musicians in support of the Wigs 4 Kids program was a great success – raising close to $400! Hair was also cut for donation at the event by King’s Room Barber Shop , who offered free styles to anyone who was interested in donating. Local musicians “Monday’s Lie” recently visited our Wigs 4 Kids Wellness Center to deliver proceeds raised from the rock concert and fashion show, “Rock the Runway.” In addition to $1,000 raised by the efforts of the Empire Seven Clothing Line, “Monday’s Lie” donated an extra $300 to Wigs 4 Kids, along with a commemorative plaque and band memorabilia. We were so pleased to have the group tour our Center and see the difference they are helping us make in the lives of the children we serve! "Inspirational Premiere of the Film Beauty Queen"
 
Last night, Wigs 4 Kids attended the premiere of the movie "Beauty Queen." The viewing of the movie was inspirational, compassionate, and humorous at times. The film was a good reflection of the challenges these children face and some of the difficulties they go through emotionally, socially and psychologically. Wigs 4 Kids is proud to have been a part of the filming with the Michigan Creative Film Alliance.

World Premiere of Independent Film "Beauty Queen"
Wigs 4 Kids is proud to announce that the Michigan Creative Film Alliance is hosting a world premiere for the independent film, "Beauty Queen." The movie depicts the story of a young woman competing in beauty pageants to earn a scholarship that will help defray the cost of her college tuition. The sudden diagnosis of alopecia, an auto-immune disorder causing hair loss, changes her life forever. In order to afford a wig that will give her the confidence to return to stage, she begins working at a wig salon. Several scenes were shot on location at our
Wellness Center, as the Michigan Creative Film Alliance needed a facility to serve as the wig salon.
We are proud to be a part of this feature as it helps educate the public on what these children and teens endure when experiencing hair loss.

Join us at our “Karaoke & Coneys” event on Friday, March 30, 2012 from 6:00-9:00 pm at the St. Clair Shores Country Club. We welcome our W4K Ambassadors, our youth in the community and families!
We’ll have National Island Coneys, french fries and soda pop while opening up the stage for those of you who want to show a little “star power” and love to sing! Door prizes and a special award to the evening ’s “favorite performer” will add to the fun.

Wigs 4 Kids and Art Van Celebrated in Style During "Ladies Night Out!"
 
Wigs 4 Kids celebrated in style Sunday evening with the generous support of
Art Van Furniture, St. John Providence Health and Fresh 100.3 FM!
Ladies Night Out offered guests an opportunity to enjoy an Academy Awards-themed party, complete with red carpet prize giveaways and an assortment of vendor-provided luxuries. From fine dining samples to jewelry and fashion accessories, vendors had it all and attendees enjoyed every minute while supporting our cause.
Donations of hair accessories and beauty products made by guests and vendors alike went directly back to young women in our Wigs 4 Kids program to help raise their self esteem. We deeply appreciate this kindness as we continue our mission! Hair was also cut for donation during the evening so that we could provide another wig for a child in need.
We are so grateful for everyone's efforts in helping our kids and for the support we received from our volunteers who helped raise awareness of our program during the event.

Wigs 4 Kids has been chosen by Art Van Furniture as their charity of choice to participate in this great event!
Guests will enjoy refreshments and be treated to a sampling of services and activities provided by local vendors. In addition, to coincide with the Academy Awards, guest will walk the red carpet, be interviewed by Renee Vitale and be invited to stay and watch the awards show on Paul’s TV screens while chatting with their girlfriends in comfortable Art Van recliners.

Country Stars Dinner Show a Great Success!
Wigs 4 Kids thanks everyone who attended and helped make our Country Stars Dinner Show fundraiser a GREAT success!!! EVERYONE had a wonderful time enjoying fantastic performances from our Tribute Artists, dinner and dancing! We appreciate the kind generosity of our MC, DJ and Country Stars for donating their talent and Lakeland Manor for the great food and service. We could not have done this without our host Anne, who organized the event and our dedicated volunteers who graciously gave of their time to help us continue our mission of serving our kids and their families.

Country Stars Dinner Show Fundraiser for Wigs 4 Kids
Join us tomorrow for the Dinner Show fundraiser - "Tribute Artists Salute Our Country Stars." Celebrity impersonators will represent artists such as Tim McGraw, Reba McIntire, Willie Nelson, and many more! This event will be held at Lakeland Manor in St. Clair Shores and starts at 6:30 PM. Proceeds from the event will assist Wigs 4 Kids in providing wigs and support services to Michigan children experiencing hair loss as a result of illness and treatment.
Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door.

Rock the Runway Appreciation Party
 
The Appreciation Party for guests who attended Rock the Runway in December is this Saturday, February 18th, 7:00 PM at the Emerald Theatre in Mt. Clemens. We have 100 tickets to this event available at no charge – stop by Wigs 4 Kids with a $10 donation and receive a complimentary ticket!
All proceeds will go directly to the children in our program. We are grateful for your support!

Valentine Spaghetti Dinner Show Fundraiser at Carnegie Grill!
Carnegie Grill at Macomb Mall supports Wigs 4 Kids! Join us on February 12th for a Valentine Spaghetti Dinner Show, featuring several local performers providing entertainment. Pangborn Design Art Show Fundraiser for Wigs 4 Kids
 
Local artist Dominic Pangborn participated in an art show & book signing fundraiser for
Wigs 4 Kids! Dominic debuted his new children’s book, “Follow Me” while guests enjoyed a wine and cheese reception, admired his artwork and watched a documentary about his life.
50% of the proceeds from the sale of Dominic's artwork went to the Wigs 4 Kids program, so we may continue our mission of serving the children of Michigan.
We thank Dominic and his family for their support and also our sponsors:
Beaumont Hospital, for sponsoring the event; Detroit Wine Organization for providing the wine and Kaul's Funeral Home for supplying the easels to display Dominic's art and the bottled water for our guests.

Deputy Matt Conforti Donates His Hair to Support Wigs 4 Kids!
 
 
Our thanks to Deputy Matt Conforti of the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department, and Sheriff Anthony Wickersham for supporting the children in our program. Matt chose to get his hair cut for donation at our Wigs 4 Kids Wellness Center & Salon to help us defray the cost of providing a wig for a child in need. This is another way the Sheriff’s Department has embraced our cause so that we may continue our mission.
What a great experience for all involved!

St. Germaine Students Support Wigs 4 Kids!
St. Germaine students have spirit! On Friday, January 13th, the St. Germaine
Student Council kicked off a Spirit Week fundraiser for Wigs 4 Kids with Crazy Hat/Hair Day. Students wore their choice of wacky hats and hair styles for $1.00 to benefit the children in our program!
For every additional dollar the students donate from January 17th-25th, a Wigs 4 Kids star will be given for them to sign and display in the gym as part of the “Be a Star” campaign. We are thankful for the students’ generosity in helping us continue our mission. |
Monfort Elementary Goodness Gorillas Held Fundraiser & Cut-a-Thon
for Wigs 4 Kids!
 
Our thanks to the Monfort Elementary “Goodness Gorillas” for hosting a cut-a-thon and fundraiser for Wigs 4 Kids! The students are encouraged to do random acts of kindness, and collectively donated 26 ponytails to help us continue our mission. In addition, $600 was raised to benefit the children in our program. |
PKSA Karate Students Support Wigs 4 Kids
 
Wigs 4 Kids appreciates the support of the St. Clair Shores Professional Karate School of America (PKSA) for hosting a “Be a Star” fundraiser! The “Little Ninjas” of PKSA sold paper stars to help raise funds to defray the cost of providing wigs and support services to the children in our program. It is heartwarming to see kids helping other kids – right here in our community! |
Santa Gets a Haircut to Support Children in the Wigs 4 Kids Program!

Santa had his haircut at Go Green Salon, located inside our Wigs 4 Kids Wellness Center to
help raise funds to defray the cost of manufacturing a wig for a child in need. This was a heartwarming experience for all involved and we are so grateful for Santa's kindness and generosity to our kids!
The ongoing support we receive from individuals & businesses in the community helps us continue our mission of providing wigs and services to the children of Michigan.

Wigs 4 Kids Joins the H&R Block Nonprofit Program
 
Wigs 4 Kids has joined the H&R Block non-profit referral program. For each new client referred to have their taxes prepared, H&R Block will send Wigs 4 Kids $25. The more new clients we refer, the more funds Wigs 4 Kids can raise and there is no limit to the number of referrals we can make.

"Fill the Helmet for Cancer" Fundraiser a Great Success!
We are so grateful for the ongoing support we receive from the community - the Harper Woods, St. Clair Shores and Eastpointe firefighters and paramedics have generously raised enough funds through their "Fill the Helmet for Cancer" fundraiser to sponsor a child through our Adopt-a-Kid program. We thank them for their generosity and apprecite the support of the Shores Inn staff in hosting the event.

Wigs 4 Kids thanks the Brueggeman sisters for their support! Each member of the family wore t-shirts designed by local artist, Dominic Pangborn to raise awareness of our program. They look great! We appreciate Gail's generosity in purchasing these from our Gift Emporium to help defray the cost of providing wigs for children in need.
